Kidney Stone Treatment with SWL Method
Shock wave lithotripsy (SWL) is performed with a machine that breaks stones from outside the body.
To break a stone, focused shock waves (high-energy sound waves with short pulses) are transmitted through the skin to the stone. The stone absorbs the energy of the shock waves and is broken into small pieces. The particles are then excreted in the urine.
