Kidney stone pain, stones in the kidney collecting system occasionally cause pain. The main reason for sudden onset of severe kidney pain in patients is the stone in the kidney changing place and falling into the ureter. This event manifests itself in most patients with swelling in the kidney, severe pain due to this, nausea and vomiting.

Kidney Stone Formation

Kidney stone pain varies depending on the size of the stone in the person, the person’s effect, and the degree of the disease. It ensures that waste materials are removed from the body so that life can continue. On the other hand, it has the task of filtering the substances necessary for the body and adjusting their levels. Kidney stones can form due to problems in the mechanism related to this task in the kidneys. It is still not clearly known why these mechanisms are disrupted. It is thought that stone disease occurs due to various factors, from nutrition to genetics, from geography to gender. These stones sometimes do not show any symptoms for a long time.

Why Do Kidney Stones Caused?

Kidney stones are caused, by some minerals in the blood that are excreted from the kidneys and are dissolved in the urine at a certain solubility. However, the solubility of the crystals decreases due to various reasons. And due to their accumulation, the crystals precipitate in the chamber-like collecting systems in the kidney. Thus, kidney stones are formed.

Calcium oxalate stones constitute approximately 80 percent of the stones. Apart from these, stones related to infections, uric acid stones, cystine stones, calcium phosphate stones are also seen.

When it comes to why kidney stones are formed, factors related to nutrition are especially important in the formation of stones. The most important of these is not consuming enough fluids. High animal protein intake and sodium consumption should not be high in the diet. Excessive consumption of refined sugars, excessive consumption of coffee or cocoa-like foods are among the causes. Urinary tract infections, structural disorders in the kidney, some medications and genetic factors are effective in the formation of stones.

Kidney Stone Symptoms

Kidney stone symptoms, very small stones can pass through the urinary tract without being noticed. However, as the stone grows in size, it can get stuck in the tube (ureter) that connects the kidney and bladder.

The most common complaint in patients with kidney stones is kidney stone pain. While the pain is so mild that it is not noticeable in some patients, it can be extremely severe in others. Pain caused by kidney stones usually appears as pain that appears and disappears intermittently. Patients usually describe the pain as “flank pain.” In addition to this pain, kidney stone symptoms include: Pain while urinating, blood in the urine, nausea or vomiting, frequent urination, urinating in small amounts or difficulty urinating, fever and chills.

Some patients do not have any complaints. Kidney stones are also detected by chance as a result of examinations performed for other purposes. Stone surgery will be ranked according to the size of the stone and the degree of kidney stone pain in the person.

Kidney Stone Diagnosis Methods

Kidney stone surgery begins with the patient’s history and physical examination. The second stage is to support the findings and clarify the diagnosis. Urinary system radiography and ultrasonography are performed. When these two examinations are used together, the vast majority of kidney stones are detected.

Urine analysis is performed to detect urinary tract infections or bleeding in urine, which are sometimes seen due to stones. In addition, blood tests are used to detect the nature of stones or to investigate their causes. Non-contrast Computerized Tomography (CT) is performed to detect small stones or to see the kidney anatomy in patients who are scheduled for surgery. There are other methods used to detect kidney stones and evaluate the urinary tract. In intravenous pyelography (IVP), doctors administer a drug that can be detected under x-ray through the patient’s vein. And after the blood is filtered from the kidneys, x-rays are taken while the drug passes through the urinary tract. Thus, kidney stones in the body, blocked areas in the urinary tract and blood flow in the kidneys are observed. The surgery to be performed for kidney stones is also determined after these x-rays and procedures.

People who experience kidney stone pain are impatient during x-rays etc. because the degree of pain caused by the stone is a little bit higher.

Treatment Methods

Kidney stone surgeries, kidney stone diagnosis with examinations The first step is to place the kidney stone. Then, the most important factors in treatment planning are the size of the stone and its location in the kidney. As the size of the kidney stone increases, the patient’s chance of passing the stone on its own decreases. In addition, in the kidney collecting system, the probability of passing stones located in the upper part is higher than those located in the lower part.

The type of treatment is determined by the severity of the patient’s pain due to the stone, whether the stone causes any damage to the kidney, and whether it impairs kidney function.

In frequently recurring kidney stones, determining the underlying cause of kidney stones is important in treatment. For this, detailed laboratory tests should be performed, and blood levels of calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, uric acid, vitamin D and parathyroid hormone should be checked.

The patient’s urine pH, cystine, uric acid, and oxalate levels in the urine should be examined. If the doctor detects an underlying metabolic or hormonal cause.treating these is important in stone treatment and prevention. The genetic history and eating habits of people wondering what causes kidney stones should definitely be checked by a doctor.

. If necessary, it can be corrected with surgical methods. People who experience kidney stone pain should not delay going to the doctor. Because it is known that these procedures take a long time.

In stubborn kidney stones, drug treatment is chosen according to the type of stone. Although the treatment method and the drugs to be used vary, the main purpose of the treatment is to increase the solubility of the crystals in the urine and prevent them from precipitating and forming stones in the kidney.

Factors such as the appearance of the stone on x-ray, the patient’s weight, and the location of the stone, which will affect the time and effort spent during breaking, also play a role in determining the price.

In short, there is no standard application. Treatment fees will vary from patient to patient and center to center. It is important for patients to obtain detailed information on the subjects mentioned before choosing the center where they will receive treatment.
